In addition to the native Devon birds to be found in and around Devon Hedgerows, I have occasionally looked at our winter migrants too. The Barn Owl was prompted by Double Elephant competing to take part in the 2020 Royal Albert Memorial Museum Local Show (we won). The Theme that year was the museum and its collections. The Barn Owl and the Black Bird are silk aquatint. Otherwise, drypoint (now with added watercolour) tends to be my preferred way to depict birds.

Hedgerows are important.
Devon has more hedgerows than any other county in the UK. These hedgerows support over 600 plant species, 1500 insects, 65 birds and 20 mammals.
The work here involves a direct use of materials gathered from the hedgerows combined with drypoint prints of notable Devon hedgerow creatures. The resulting prints vary from small editioned drypoints to highly complex one-off prints using collagraph backgrounds.
