First go at Video!!

Having come across Animoto I thought I’d have a go at making a little 30 second video.

After all it looks ridiculously easy!! And it really was as easy as it looked. You just choose a video style from a selection available, choose some music from their library of licensed music, upload some photographs (and video clips if you happen to have some) then cross your fingers while the programme does the work for you!! More Artists from 33,000 Miles!

A glimpse of one of the photographs by Robert Darch

Time has been passing alarmingly fast and the launch date for the exhibition 33,000 Miles is only a few days away. I had been intending to show you glimpses of the other artists work at intervals over the past few weeks, but life has been far too hectic!

So here are a few last minute glimpses that I hope will whet your appetite to come to the launch on Friday (or any time over the following two weeks – excluding Mondays).

I would like to give you a glimpse of the artwork that some of my colleagues are creating for the exhibition 33,000 Miles.

First a reminder – the exhibition is called 33,000 Miles because that is approximately how many miles of hedgerow there are in Devon! This is more than any other county and we have more ancient hedgerow than anywhere else too.

And 33,000 Miles is an art exhibition with workshops featuring 6 Devon based artists running from 15 – 30th October at RedEarth Galler, Bickliegh. See previous news for details of the other artists. http://lynnbailey.co.uk/print/30000miles

Hedgerows are the most significant wildlife habitat over large stretches of lowland UK and are an essential refuge for a great many woodland and farmland plants and animals.” Joint Nature Conservation Committee.

Devon has more hedges remaining than any other county in the UK. It is estimated that there are 53,000 km (33,000 miles) of hedge still in the county, and that we have about 20% of all the species-rich hedges left in the UK.

Art Haven @ RedEarth

July 16th – July 30th

Thoroughly enjoyed Art Haven’s launch at RedEarth Gallery, (Bickleigh, Devon) on Friday.

This is a lovely and diverse group of artists that I was part of until I recently decided to put more of my energies towards activities at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.

Part of what’s special about Art Haven’s launch parties is the contribution of music from Art Haven’s sculptor and sound artist Dave Sawyers band Chill Acoustics.

A Silver Thread

Had a thoroughly exhausting day at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen (Thursday 23rd June). It’s fascinating being part of the selection committee and I always learn an awful lot from the other craft specialists. It is exhausting because it tends to be a very long day and we all feel very responsible about how we select the pieces that are going to go in the exhibition and what isn’t. There’s strict criteria and we have to justify every decision. Today we were selecting for the summer show which is has it’s launch on Friday 1st July 6-8pm. The title for the show is A Silver Thread and it is to celebrate the Devon Guild having been at the Riverside Mill in Bovey Tracey for 25 years.

New Studio

I have been settling into my new studio space. The light is fantastic and I’m sure that as I get busier I won’t notice the ‘little old lady’ features quite so much. If this becomes a long term arrangement, then I will consider imposing my own tastes on the decor. But meanwhile, I am very grateful to be able to use such a splendid space just a short walk Read More
